We’re proud to share that Biochar Life Thailand has received an AA–BBB Estimation Rating from Sylvera, one of the world’s leading carbon data platforms, on September 10, 2025.
This rating reflects third-party confidence in the quality and credibility of our carbon removal work with smallholder farmers, particularly through our biochar projects in Phrao, Northern Thailand, in partnership with Warm Heart Foundation.
The ICROA-endorsed project with registry ID GCSP1010 can be accessed on the Global C-Sink Registry.
In northern Thailand, open-field burning remains a major source of seasonal haze and air pollution. Through our collaboration with local farmers and Warm Heart Foundation, Biochar Life helps turn agricultural residues — longan tree prunings, corn stalks, husks, and cobs — into biochar, a stable form of carbon that stays locked in soil for centuries.
Beyond carbon removal, these projects deliver co-benefits that reach far beyond emissions:
This community-driven model continues to demonstrate that climate action and rural livelihoods can go hand in hand.
“This rating is an important validation of the work our teams and partners have been doing for years. Our focus has always been on integrity — ensuring every tonne of carbon we remove is real, traceable, and delivers genuine benefits for farmers and communities. Sylvera’s recognition reinforces that local, farmer-led solutions can meet global standards of quality and impact.” - Matt Rickard, CEO at Biochar Life.
Sylvera independently evaluates carbon projects across the world to help buyers, investors, and developers understand quality and risk.
An Estimation Rating identifies high-potential projects that merit further due diligence. Independent ratings like Sylvera’s are an important step toward greater transparency and trust in carbon markets.
Projects are assessed across four key pillars:
A rating in the AA–BBB range places Biochar Life’s work among projects demonstrating high integrity and measurable impact.
Biochar Life helps smallholder farmers turn agricultural waste into biochar, improving soil health, generating additional income, and delivering verified carbon removals.
Our distributed biochar model combines local know-how with digital monitoring and verification tools to ensure transparency and quality. To date, Biochar Life has worked with over 2,000 farmers, removed 21,000+ tonnes of CO₂, and returned over US$1 million to rural communities.
By working at the intersection of agriculture, health, and climate, we’re building a model where smallholders can become key players in carbon removal.
